Biography

Dr. Larry M. Wolford, board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, is recognized globally as a leading expert in corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery. Dr. Wolford has over 40 years of experience in research and treatment of complex jaw revision surgery, total temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacement, snoring and obstructive sleep apnea treatment, cleft lip and palate treatment, craniofacial surgery, and cranial nerve repair surgery. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his contributions to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Wolford is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a past member of its Advisory Committee (served 6 years). He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Society of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Surgeons.

Dr. Wolford graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and Temple University School of Dentistry. He completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed a Cleft Palate Fellowship from the University of Pittsburgh and a Special Surgical Observation Program with Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris France. Dr. Wolford is in private practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and is Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics at Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Baylor College of Dentistry. He has been the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Fellowship Program at these institutions for 28 years.

Dr. Larry Wolford was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and grew up in a small rural community outside of the city. He comes from a long line of doctors: His grandfather was a dentist, his father was an oral surgeon, and his older brother, Gary, is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Wolford is married to Dr. Denise Wolford and they have five children: Dax, Dallas, Demi, Dylan, and Dash.

Special Surgical Observation Program:

Dr. Paul Tessier, Paris France (July 1 – 31, 1973)

Dr. Wolford received the honor of a Special Surgical Observation Program with the world-renowned surgeon Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris France (July 1 – 31, 1973). Dr. Tessier is acknowledged as the father of craniofacial surgery because of his innovative work merging the related specialties of oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic, ophthalmic and neurosurgery into this new surgical specialty, which brought hope to many with severe facial deformities.
